Singapore celebrates Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) Day on 18 June 2026 — a date recognised by the United Nations to promote awareness of the vital role that small businesses play in economies worldwide. In Singapore, ACRA (the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority) has signalled its support for MSME Day 2026 through a series of engagement activities and compliance assistance initiatives aimed at helping small businesses stay on top of their regulatory obligations.

If you are a director or company secretary of a Singapore SME, this is a timely reminder to review your company’s compliance status ahead of the mid-year mark.

What Is MSME Day?

MSME Day is observed annually on 27 June globally, but Singapore’s ACRA has been running its own MSME engagement activities around the month of June. In 2026, ACRA’s MSME Day activities are scheduled for 18 June 2026, and will include outreach sessions, compliance clinics, and digital resources to help small business owners navigate their filing obligations.

MSMEs — defined broadly as companies with annual turnover of up to S$100 million and fewer than 200 employees — make up the vast majority of Singapore-incorporated companies. ACRA estimates that there are over 300,000 registered business entities in Singapore, most of which fall within the MSME category.

Key Compliance Reminders for SME Directors

Ahead of MSME Day, directors of Singapore-incorporated companies should review the following key compliance obligations:

Annual General Meeting (AGM) Obligations

Private companies in Singapore are required to hold an AGM within six months of their financial year-end if they have not passed a resolution dispensing with the AGM. If your company’s financial year ended on 31 December 2025, your AGM deadline is 30 June 2026. Directors should confirm this has been arranged. For a full guide to AGM requirements, see our article on AGM Requirements for Singapore Companies.

Annual Return Filing

All Singapore companies must file their Annual Return with ACRA within seven months of their financial year-end (for private companies). If your FYE was 31 December 2025, the filing deadline is 31 July 2026. Late filing attracts penalties. Company secretaries should ensure this is tracked on their compliance calendar.

Financial Statements

Companies required to prepare audited financial statements must ensure these are completed and presented to shareholders before the AGM. Under CALA 2025 (effective 6 May 2026), companies that are required to have their accounts audited must also comply with new named audit partner disclosure requirements in their audit reports.

Register of Registrable Controllers (RORC)

All Singapore companies must maintain an up-to-date RORC. This register records the beneficial owners (controllers) of the company and must be filed with ACRA. Directors should ensure the RORC reflects the current ownership structure, particularly if there have been any share transfers, new investors, or changes in nominee arrangements since the last review.

Director Particulars

Any changes to director particulars (address, NRIC, passport) must be notified to ACRA within 14 days of the change. Directors who have moved house or renewed their passports should ensure their company secretary has updated the relevant ACRA records.

ACRA’s Digital Resources for SMEs

ACRA continues to invest in digital tools to make compliance easier for small businesses. Key resources include:

  • BizFile+: ACRA’s online portal for all business filings, including annual return submissions, director updates, and share transfers. Accessible at bizfile.gov.sg.
  • GoBusiness: A whole-of-government platform providing guidance on licences, grants, and regulatory requirements for Singapore businesses. Visit gobusiness.gov.sg.
  • SME Portal: A central resource for SME-specific grants, schemes, and support available from Enterprise Singapore and other government agencies.
