A missing GST acknowledgement should prompt a check of the actual return status, rather than an automatic second submission. Identify the company and accounting period and ask the authorised filer to use the current IRAS process. A missing saved PDF does not prove that the return failed.

Establish which record is absent
Keep the return working papers, approval and any submission reference or message. Distinguish an acknowledgement page from a payment record, software export or reminder email.
Check whether another authorised filer retained the completed receipt. Avoid forwarding unrestricted tax records merely to locate a missing file.
Check the official status
IRAS says a successful submission should produce an acknowledgement page. Its status-check guidance explains how authorised users can view GST return status in myTax Portal; a status of PROCESSED indicates successful submission.
Compare the legal entity and exact period. If the result is unclear, follow current IRAS guidance or seek clarification instead of assuming that an active browser session means the filing completed.
Example: the browser closed after submission
The preparer cannot find the downloaded acknowledgement after closing the browser. Check the official return status and retain the available submitted-record evidence. Do not recreate the transaction simply to obtain a new receipt if the return is already shown as submitted.
Reconcile the result with the working papers
Keep the verified status, figures where available and actual evidence retrieval date with the approved pack. Record any discrepancy requiring the tax preparer’s review. Filing status and payment remain separate checks. If the return was not submitted, arrange the appropriate authorised next step promptly; this checklist does not extend a deadline or authorise a filing.
