An asset cost adjustment reconciliation should connect an approved ledger change with the fixed asset register and relevant calculations. A correct journal does not automatically update a separate spreadsheet register. Preserve the original purchase evidence and identify exactly what the adjustment changes.

Trace the accepted adjustment
Record the asset identifier, original cost, journal reference, effective period and reason. Separate a genuine cost correction from a later addition, reclassification or another accounting change.
Give the accountant the supplier documents and approved working papers. Do not change the historical invoice or describe an accounting journal as a new supplier charge.
Compare all affected schedules
Reconcile the ledger asset balance to the register before and after the adjustment. Identify related accumulated depreciation, disposal and reporting schedules that may need review.
Ask the accountant which calculations should change and for which periods. Do not reset an asset’s acquisition date or useful life simply to make the new carrying amount appear convenient.
Example: the ledger correction bypassed the register
A supported purchase-cost correction was posted in the ledger, while depreciation continues from an older register value. Keep the two versions and quantify the difference for review. Adding an unexplained depreciation entry would hide the reason the schedules diverged.
Retain the reconciled outcome
Keep the updated register, approved calculation and journal history linked by asset reference. Reconcile financial reporting and any tax capital-allowance review separately where required. Confirm the actual change in each system, rather than treating approval of the original journal as evidence that every supporting schedule has been corrected.
