A duplicate bank feed import should be investigated by source batch and bank reference before entries are removed or reversed. Preserve the statement and affected import details. Two identical amounts may be genuine separate transactions, while one real transaction may have arrived through both an automatic feed and a manual file.

Define the repeated scope

Record the account, currency, affected dates and import routes. Identify whether the duplication concerns unprocessed feed lines, posted transactions or both. Those stages may need different correction procedures.

Keep the import log and original files available. Do not delete a complete batch merely because one date overlaps with another upload.

Match to the bank statement

Compare transaction references, dates, amounts and descriptions with the actual statement. Mark confirmed duplicate source lines separately from real repeated payments. Check whether the accounting system already matched either line to an existing invoice or receipt.

Ask the accountant or system administrator to determine the authorised correction route. A reconciliation difference should not be concealed by posting an unrelated balancing expense.

Example: feed and CSV overlap

The bank feed starts partway through a month already uploaded manually. Identify the overlapping transactions and their posting status. A second import can duplicate the ledger even where the original bank statement contains each movement only once.

Verify after correction

Retain the approved correction record and reconcile the closing bank balance again. Check related supplier, customer and tax records where posted entries were affected. Keep the source controls clear for the next import so the same date range is not processed again during a staff handover.
