An InvoiceNow GST return check is still needed when invoice data has been successfully transmitted. IRAS states that businesses remain responsible for filing accurate GST returns and keeping proper records. A successful invoice-data acknowledgement should not be treated as a return-filing receipt.

Identify what the status confirms

Keep the software message, document references and transmission dates. Ask the provider which destination and processing stage the acknowledgement covers.

Distinguish delivery to a customer from submission of invoice data to IRAS and from filing the company’s GST return. Similar green status indicators may describe entirely different tasks.

Reconcile to the return working papers

Give the GST preparer the accounting records, relevant adjustments and data-submission summary. Check the reporting period and legal entity for each record.

The return reviewer should assess completeness and treatment rather than copying a transmission total without reconciliation. Successful technical acceptance does not establish that every source invoice is correct or every return adjustment has been included.

Example: invoices are accepted but the return is a draft

The software shows accepted invoice data, while the authorised preparer still has an unapproved return. Keep the filing task open. Obtain the actual approval and submission through the company’s established process instead of treating the data feed as automatic completion.

Keep distinct completion evidence

Retain the actual GST return filing acknowledgement and reconcile the submitted figures with the approved working papers. Track payment separately where tax is payable. Keep invoice-data corrections and return corrections linked where relevant, but use the appropriate process for each.

Confirm the company’s own InvoiceNow implementation requirements using current IRAS guidance. This checklist does not assume every business has the same start date or that a software status extends an existing filing obligation.
