A CPF Direct Debit failure needs a check of the CPF Board notice, scheduled retry and actual bank outcome before another payment is arranged. A contribution submission is not proof that the funds were collected. Keep the submission and payment records connected, and follow the Board’s instructions for the particular failure.

Identify the failed deduction
Record the company, contribution period, submission reference and failed amount. Preserve the notification and stated reason. Check whether the issue concerns insufficient funds, a bank limit or another problem before assuming that the contribution calculation itself is wrong.
Use the authorised CPF and banking channels. Do not send payroll lists or bank login details in response to an unverified message claiming that a deduction failed.
Check whether another attempt is scheduled
CPF Board explains that where a first deduction fails and a second is scheduled, the second attempt is seven calendar days later. Its guidance also identifies cases where no further attempt will be made. Read the actual notice and applicable scenario instead of assuming every failure will retry automatically.
Where an immediate PayNow QR payment is being considered while a second deduction is scheduled, check the Board’s stated cancellation process to avoid paying twice. The current guide says to write to the Board at least two working days before that scheduled deduction. Any payment still needs the company’s normal authorisation.
Example: a replacement payment is proposed
Finance sees a failure notice and prepares an immediate payment, while payroll expects the retry to proceed. Reconcile those plans with the official record before execution. A conversation between colleagues is not evidence that the Board cancelled a deduction.
Verify the eventual settlement
Compare the bank transaction and official payment outcome with the intended period and amount. A QR code or bank instruction alone does not prove completed settlement. Investigate a later return or duplicate deduction separately rather than altering the approved contribution record to conceal it.
Close the exception with evidence
Retain the failure notice, instructions followed, authorised payment and successful outcome together. CPF Board notes that late-payment interest may be incurred. Escalate timing concerns promptly instead of assuming that a scheduled retry removes every consequence of late payment.
