An earlier payroll period adjustment should identify why the amount changed and when the entitlement arose, not only when finance processed it. A newly decided retrospective increase and a payment delayed by an administrative error are different facts. Give the payroll reviewer a clear timeline before CPF treatment is finalised.

Recover the original basis

Keep the employment terms, approved salary changes, payroll calculations and payment evidence. Identify the affected employee and wage periods through restricted payroll records.

Record when the change was decided, when it became payable and when it was actually paid. Avoid changing an original payroll date to make a later correction appear timely.

Distinguish the reason for adjustment

CPF Board distinguishes retrospective salary increments decided later from amounts that were already payable but paid late because of an administrative delay. The wage classification and any shortfall review depend on that distinction.

Ask the reviewer to apply the current rules to the actual facts. Do not label every prior-month amount Additional Wages simply because it is paid with the current month’s salary.

Example: an omitted approved increase

A salary increase had already become payable, but payroll omitted it and discovers the error later. Preserve the earlier approval and affected-month calculations. Do not recast the amount as a newly awarded bonus to avoid examining the earlier contribution position.

Reconcile the accepted correction

Keep the reviewed payroll entry, employee payment and any CPF adjustment or arrears evidence linked by wage period. Use the actual official correction process where necessary. Completion of a bank payment does not prove that contribution records or employee-income reporting have also been corrected.
