An annual return share currency discrepancy should be traced to the underlying capital and issue records before anyone changes the return. Financial-statement presentation currency and the currency recorded for share capital serve different purposes. Do not convert a share figure merely to make two documents display the same currency label.

Identify the affected field
Keep the proposed or filed return, relevant company extract and share issue documents. Note whether the difference concerns currency, share number, paid amount or unpaid amount. Several differences can appear together and need separate explanations.
Record the relevant issue date and share class. A later financing or currency transaction should not be assumed to explain an earlier capital entry.
Reconcile the source sequence
Ask the secretary to compare the original allotment or issue evidence, subsequent capital changes and the current controlled record. Ask the accountant separately about the financial statements and any presentation or functional-currency treatment.
Make a schedule showing each document’s actual label and amount. Do not overwrite historical resolutions or invent an exchange rate to force agreement.
Example: accounts show an equivalent amount
A financial statement presents an amount in one currency while the company record retains a different capital currency. Give the reviewers both documents and their dates. The apparent difference may need an explanation rather than a change to the share record.
This checklist does not decide which currency an actual issue should use or determine whether a filing is correct.
Confirm the correction route
If the proposed return has not been submitted, hold the disputed item for review. If it is already filed, retain the original receipt and obtain instructions on the appropriate correction process. Keep the accepted reconciliation with the annual compliance pack so the same unexplained difference is not repeated.
